Foundation Facts

About Joy Thomas

Joy Thomas was an Indian-American Electrical Engineer who made seminal contributions to the fields of Information Theory, data analytics, and large-scale data mining. He was passionate about encouraging young minds in STEM-related disciplines. Joy was an alumnus of IIT, Madras and St. Joseph’s Boys High School in Bangalore, India. Tragically, he passed at the age of 57 in 2020 while working for Google.

Our Story

Following his untimely death, Joy's friends, colleagues and classmates created the Joy Thomas Foundation to continue his legacy of generosity to the world. The Foundation brings together a global network of STEM mentors who are dedicated to inspiring the next generation of STEM students, researchers and entrepreneurs.

Our Mission

The Joy Thomas Foundation brings together a wide range of people from Industry and Academia to mentor and support High School and College students who are pursuing education, research and careers in STEM related fields. The foundation has a particular focus on assisting students from disadvantaged and underserved populations.

How We Work

The Foundation sponsors awards to promote STEM excellence, offers mentoring, career guidance and employment assistance to college STEM students. Our High School STEM programs seek to inspire students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue STEM related careers, to secure higher paying jobs that benefit their families.
