The event is designed to connect STEM students with mentors, expose them to role models, and celebrate the journeys of fellow women in their pursuit of excellence in STEM careers.

JTF will present the inaugural Joy Thomas Prize for STEM excellence to the best incoming engineering woman student, as ranked in the annual IIT Joint Entrance Exam (Advanced) 2021.

    Pooja Goyal is the co-founder and COO of Avishkaar which is a platform to support children learn next-gen tech skills like Robotics, AI, IoT, and Coding. Avishkaar is her 3rd start-up and has been named in the top 100 disruptive start-ups to watch out for worldwide by Analytics India.  Her last start-up, Intellitots was in the early years education space and was acquired by Founding Years. She worked at Adobe in the Bay Area for many years where she managed the Acrobat product marketing team. Pooja graduated from IIT Delhi in 1996 and later did her MBA from INSEAD, France. 


    M. S. Archana graduated from IIT Kanpur in 2019 with a B.Tech. major in Electrical Engineering, and minors in Machine Learning and Computer Systems. She is an alumna of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and a Dakshana Scholar.  She received the Ashok Jain award for being the Female topper from the Dakshana batch of 2015.  Archana presently works as a software engineer.


    Anjana Susarla is the Omura-Saxena Professor of Responsible AI at the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University. She has an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras; an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta; and Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Texas at Austin. She studies algorithmic bias and responsible AI.

About Joy Thomas Foundation


The Joy Thomas Foundation brings together a global network of STEM mentors, who are dedicated to inspiring the next generation of STEM students, researchers and entrepreneurs. The Foundation was created in 2020 to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Joy Thomas, an Indian-American STEM genius, and IIT Madras Alumnus. At Stanford University, IBM, and as a Silicon Valley Tech entrepreneur, he was a world-renowned researcher and thought leader with seminal contributions in Information Theory. He was passionate about enabling and encouraging young minds in STEM related disciplines. 


The Foundation awards annual scholarships to promote STEM excellence, offers mentoring, career guidance and employment assistance services to college STEM students. Our High School STEM programs seek to inspire and increase student awareness of the broad range of STEM related careers and job opportunities. The Foundation’s core mission is to positively impact STEM education, careers, and research world-wide.

PanIIT Alumni India is a Society registered in 2006 to promote networking among alumni of all the IITs and to give expression to the desire of IIT alumni to give back to their alma mater, to society and to the nation. The Alumni Associations of the IITs are its Institutional Members. PanIIT undertakes projects and programs which promote an understanding of new technologies, their likely impact on society and the emerging opportunities for India. PanIIT also works with the IITs to provide alumni support in matters of concern to them, and provide networking support needed by students and young alumni.
